Erasure head for forest gig

Via Scarborough Evening News

ERASURE have been confirmed as the second headline act for June’s concerts in Dalby Forest.

The band have been away from recording and live concerts for more than four years and have just announced their Total Pop! tour – a series of dates for summer 2011 playing their hits as part of Forestry Commission Live Music events.

Erasure’s Andy Bell said: “This wonderful opportunity to perform for the fans in such a unique backdrop feels like just the right way to jump back in to Erasure after a four-year break.

“We’re excited to be playing in the woods and really hope it doesn’t rain.”

They will play a total of seven dates across the country and are due to play at Dalby Forest, near Pickering, on Saturday June 25.

The tour also coincides with the release of a new album.

Erasure formed 25 years ago and the award-winning duo released a succession of both influential and chart-topping pop anthems of the 1980s and 1990s including Sometimes, Victim Of Love, Ship Of Fools, Blue Savannah, Star and Who Needs Love (Like That).

Indie rockers are Keane to play in the forest

Article from: Scarborough Evening News

ORGANISERS of this year's summer concerts in Dalby Forest have announced the second of the two headline acts.
Keane, winners of Brits, Grammy's and Ivor Novello awards, will play the woodland venue on Friday June 25, the night before Mick Hucknall's Simply Red take the stage.

The Indie rockers have had three consecutive Number One albums and, with a collection of hits including Everybody's Changing, Is It Any Wonder? and Somewhere Only We Know, the group has secured a place as one of Britain's best-loved bands.

Keane follow in the footsteps of previous top acts to play the 8,600-acre rustic venue including Paul Weller, Jarvis Cocker and The Beautiful South.

Cash raised by the gig will be used to care for woodlands across North Yorkshire and the Tees Valley. Organiser Paul Cody said: "It's another fantastic name to add to the Dalby play-list and a tribute to the pulling power of the forest."

Tickets costing £32, subject to booking fee, go on sale at 9am on Friday.

Halloween event - Dalby Forest

Article via: Scarborough Evening News

A NIGHT of animal magic and ghostly capers is being conjured up at Dalby Forest this Halloween.
The special event on October 31 will feature ghoulish fun and games and pumpkin and fancy dress competitions, while creatures including Eric the 3ft python and Ursula the tarantula will be present.

Their owner, Marie Conway, of Scarborough, runs her own business called Animal In Tuition to educate youngsters about wildlife.

She said: “The fear soon disappears and fascination takes over. It’s a great way to earn a living and teach respect for animals.”

Drama students from Yorkshire Coast College will put on a grisly performance, starring as zombies and vampires in the woods.

Ranger Mark Barker added: “We’ll be putting the record straight on snakes and spiders, but also frightening the socks off revellers with ghoulish tales and characters.

“Dalby is a fabulous place to celebrate Halloween and this event has become the biggest in the forest calendar, last year attracting more than 400 souls.”

Places are limited and booking is essential. For ticket prices and further information call 01751 472771.
